Faithfulness

Great is thy Faithfulness is a hymn that was written by Thomas Chisholm in 1923. I can't pinpoint when I first heard or sang it, but I remember singing it frequently at military chapel services in Europe.

Verse…

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father.

There is no shadow of turning with Thee.

Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not.

As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Chorus…

Great is Thy faithfulness.

Great is Thy faithfulness.

Morning by morning, new mercies, I see.

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.

The nature of the Father is faithfulness! He created us in His image, and therefore, we are to mirror him. It does not happen all at once. He is progressively working on us so that we act like him more and more each day. Okay, so what is faithfulness supposed to look like in our lives?

  • Keeping your word… when you say that you are going to do something, you follow through and do it. You can be trusted! You are trustworthy. My material grandfather loved me and often he would take me with him on work-related trips. But there were also times that he promised to come and get me, and I sat for hours waiting for him and he never showed up. As a child, it was so disappointing, and it hurt deeply. If we consistently do not keep our word, it will prove that we cannot be trusted.

  • Being committed… you have your whole heart involved. If you do something half-heartedly, you won't put in genuine effort, and you'll lack enthusiasm and interest.

  • Being consistent…dedicated and focused… in it for the long haul.

  • Being loyal…allegiance and constant support. Being there for someone and staying with them through thick and thin.

  • Being truthful… not just telling the truth by being honest, but also being real or genuine. Are you tired of always trying to be someone that you are not? Do you even know the real you? When you look in the mirror, would you ask yourself, will the real me please come forward?

My name (Vera) means faith/true. Father, help me live my name!
